Thanks to Rochelle for choosing my picture this week. I look forward to reading everyone else’s stories as well.

The Day of the Peep
They are a cruel bunch, these humans, who eat our soft bodies for their pleasure. When the snow melts and the trees bud, then you will know that the season of our slaughter has again begun.
But that is not the worst. There is a machine of torture they possess: a very-small wave, where they confine us and explode our bodies, just to watch our torment.
So rise up, you pastel mallows of the marsh! Smother the oppressors with your gooey bodies. Mayhap we will discover a very-small wave of our own and then, the peep shall inherit the earth.
I’m not sure how universal Peeps are, but you can read more here.

Dear David,
Oh those diabolical marshmallowy creatures. It’s been sometime since I’ve eaten one. When I was five I kept one until my mother spirited the stale thing away and disposed of it quietly. π I couldn’t bear to eat it. It had a face.
At any rate, I enjoyed your story and the links. π
Shalom,
Rochelle
PS What are those things in the photo anyway???

Thanks, Rochelle. I’m honestly not sure the last time I had one since they were never a thing we ate a lot but they seem very important to some people, I’ve noticed.
This picture is from Singapore and it’s just some art installation in the Gardens by the Bay. They were actually changing colors constantly and I didn’t realize until this was posted that I caught them when they were all blue and pink so it makes it look like it’s something gender-related. I took a video of it so maybe I’ll put that on YouTube and share a link next week.
Have a great week!
David

LOL! “pastel mallows of the marsh” … genius! Thanks for the chuckle!
April 22nd, 2021 at 6:38 pm
Thanks, Susan. π I had to think about this one a long time and then it just popped into my head.
April 22nd, 2021 at 6:59 pm
π It worked!

Aw, the poor things. I see peeps in the store but havenever had a cultural attachment to them … I didn’t know about their very-small-wave potential though. Now I’m tempted!
April 22nd, 2021 at 6:37 pm
Hmm, this story may have started a whole wave of peepicide. Oh well. π
April 22nd, 2021 at 9:51 am
Not a peep outta you. XD
Well done!
April 22nd, 2021 at 6:36 pm
haha, thanks. π
April 22nd, 2021 at 9:59 am
Peeps are a new one on me. We don’t have them
April 22nd, 2021 at 6:36 pm
Honestly, they’re just sugar so they’re not great, but they come out at Easter each year so it’s sort of a cultural thing.
April 22nd, 2021 at 2:45 pm
Stand by for revenge of the peeps! Aaaaahhhhaaa! Love munching peeps. Have never “waved” one… might have to give that a try.
April 22nd, 2021 at 6:35 pm
haha, I’ve actually never either but it seems to be a thing.
April 22nd, 2021 at 7:36 pm
Oh these poor mellows of the marsh. This made me giggle. I never liked to eat them, and roasting them sounds even less appealing. Do they need a spy? Do they pay well? Great story, and thank you for the inspiring picture.
April 25th, 2021 at 5:49 pm
Being candy, they might just pay in chocolate coins.
April 23rd, 2021 at 3:33 am
I love the photograph. The colors.
April 23rd, 2021 at 5:21 am
Not having a sweet tooth, marshmallows are a no-go area for me. And toasting them sounds inhumane. π Great photo, David.
April 25th, 2021 at 5:48 pm
Thanks, Sandra. I have a sweet tooth but Peeps are a bit sweet even for me.
April 23rd, 2021 at 7:30 am
I always suspected those peeps would one day have their revenge.
April 25th, 2021 at 5:47 pm
They have taken a lot of abuse over years, maybe even more than gummy bears, with people biting the heads off.
April 23rd, 2021 at 9:13 am
I’d never heard of them, but lots of fun especially after I followed your link. Your story’s lots of fun I mean, not exploding the Peeps, of course π
April 23rd, 2021 at 12:55 pm
Ooh. I don’t want to be around for Revenge of the Peeps!
April 25th, 2021 at 5:46 pm
Yeah, really, although probably even a nice stiff rain would wipe them out. They’re pretty fragile by nature.
April 23rd, 2021 at 8:04 pm
Funny story, David! I used to eat Peeps at Easter and marshmallows in S”mores around a campfire as a kid. Thanks for the memories! Love the photo, and love Singapore! π
April 25th, 2021 at 5:45 pm
Thanks, Brenda. Yes, Singapore is a pretty amazing place. I was there last year just before everything locked down so I was lucky things were still open. Hopefully I’ll be able to go back before too too long.

What a hilarious take on the prompt, David. I never was into these peeps but I have a friend who still loves them today.
Thank you for a most intriguing photo. It has sparked some imaginative takes.
April 25th, 2021 at 5:43 pm
Thanks, Dale. It’s always nice to see one of your own pictures as the prompt. Glad you liked the story. π
April 25th, 2021 at 6:16 pm
That it is! And I did. π
April 25th, 2021 at 2:12 pm
Since I strongly dislike the super-sugary Peeps, I don’t have much sympathy for them. Blast away!
April 25th, 2021 at 5:43 pm
Haha, they’re too sweet for me too. I’d rather just eat marshmallows than them.
April 25th, 2021 at 9:59 pm
David, you’re story tickled me pink. I don’t mind peeps, it’s those orange peanuts I can’t stand.
May 9th, 2021 at 7:24 pm
Yeah, anything that looks and feels like packing peanuts shouldn’t be eaten. π Glad you liked the story.

Ha! Ha! Fun story. It is said that one day the peep will inherit the earth.
Thanks for the great photo by the way.
