This Friday Fictioneers story includes dark humor and white flowers. On a side note, I dare you to say the title five times fast.

A Lily Look-alike’s Lament
I’m making this video to say that I quit. It’s too hard. I came to this planet to make friends and have adventures, but everyone mistakes me for a type of local flora known as a lil-lee. I hate it when they stick their noses in my mouths, inhale deeply and say “ahhh”. I’ve always been ashamed of my body odor. They put me next to dead people too.
I’m going to throw myself out this window as soon as I can get . . . it . . . open.
I guess I’ll just wait for someone to throw me away.
Too bad I’m immortal.

David this is hilarious I love this story. Fortunately I was not drinking coffee when reading it. Great great take.
March 13th, 2013 at 10:31 pm
Thanks. It looked rather somber to me, so I figured most people would go serious and I wanted to do something different. 🙂
March 13th, 2013 at 11:01 pm
I love it. Sod’s law 😆
March 16th, 2013 at 11:51 pm
🙂
March 13th, 2013 at 11:25 pm
I love it, so funny. You are a bad, bad man though for teasing us to try to repeat the title five times. I couldn’t do it once!
March 13th, 2013 at 11:41 pm
Don’t worry, I couldn’t do it either 🙂
March 13th, 2013 at 11:33 pm
That.was.awesome. Love it!!! And it was nowhere near too dark!!
March 13th, 2013 at 11:42 pm
Thanks. It obviously wasn’t meant to be dark, but I never know how people will take stuff.
March 13th, 2013 at 11:45 pm
Loved this!
March 14th, 2013 at 12:15 am
I made it through 4 1/1 times. 🙂 Lots of fun. I especially like the body odor idea. There are people who find the scent of lil-lees as annoying a body odor, so that made it more amusing.

I guess one person’s perfume is another’s stench.
March 14th, 2013 at 12:17 am
That is SO true. I’ve long had an issue with women whose perfume reaches out and smacks me as they walk by. Subtle is a good word in that case!
March 14th, 2013 at 12:22 am
haha! never thought i’d look at a bunch of lilies that way.. hilarious and really unique. only you could’ve written that. lol
March 14th, 2013 at 12:28 am
try as I might (which is not very hard) I can’t get away from writing really weird stuff. 🙂
March 14th, 2013 at 1:27 am
Aliens! You never disappoint! 😀
March 16th, 2013 at 11:53 pm
Thanks! You never know what’s going to pop up.
March 14th, 2013 at 3:16 am
That was actually quite funny! I think lil lee might have to wait a long time before someone throws it out of the window.
I loved the odour idea.
March 16th, 2013 at 11:52 pm
It’s a pretty flower, so I don’t think it’s going in the trash anytime soon. Hopefully it’ll find some meaning in life. 🙂
March 14th, 2013 at 4:21 am
I’m… feeling…. the…. pain…! 🙂
March 14th, 2013 at 6:17 am
These alternate consciousness portrayals are always interesting!
March 14th, 2013 at 10:14 am
This was awesome! Loved your take on it. Bravo!
March 14th, 2013 at 5:00 pm
poor thing! 😦
March 14th, 2013 at 5:02 pm
hey come there is no problem in reading the title aloud!
March 16th, 2013 at 11:54 pm
you must be especially gifted. 🙂 Do Indian languages have many “L” sounds? This would be killer for a Korean to say, probably.
March 14th, 2013 at 5:45 pm
Very funny, great title. I worked my way backwards through the list this week so it was good to get a little light relief. 🙂
March 16th, 2013 at 11:56 pm
Glad I could provide a bit of relief from serious matters. 🙂
I tend to work from the front of the list, but I try to give some love to the late posters too. These days though, I never have time to read as many as I’d like.
March 14th, 2013 at 6:09 pm
Dear David,
Now there’s a spin on the prompt I’d never have thought of. Made me laugh out loud. Now when I look at lilies I’ll be more cautious about sticking my nose in their mouths.
shalom,
Rochelle
March 16th, 2013 at 11:57 pm
Glad you liked it, Rochelle. The secret lives of flowers is a weird place.
March 14th, 2013 at 10:16 pm
I’ve never liked the scent of lilies. Now I know why! Very imaginative 🙂
March 16th, 2013 at 11:59 pm
You were very prescient about the smell of lilies, I guess. Thanks for the comment.
March 14th, 2013 at 10:50 pm
Very amusing.
Loved it.
March 14th, 2013 at 10:52 pm
Awww, I’d be his (hers? its?) friend!
Also, damn you for personifying yet another inanimate object that I’ll feel guilty about getting rid of or mistreating! 🙂
March 14th, 2013 at 10:54 pm
Yeah, it’s a bad habit of mine. 🙂 My wife felt sorry for it too.
March 15th, 2013 at 12:41 am
You know, I always suspected those Lilies were more than just flowers 😉
Nice piece
March 15th, 2013 at 12:45 am
Made me laugh – brilliant!
March 15th, 2013 at 4:03 am
😆 Funny David, sticking their noses in his mouth. Priceless.
March 15th, 2013 at 4:06 am
Can’t you just imagine a flower being so distraught that it wishes to throw itself out a window to end it all? Wait, you can ’cause you did. Very good.
March 15th, 2013 at 6:06 am
very clever. Poor Lily she is doomed
March 15th, 2013 at 6:11 am
Great take! I guess it could have been worse…

Love the POV!
March 15th, 2013 at 9:53 am
A fun and unique take on the prompt
March 15th, 2013 at 12:37 pm
Totally wonderful! I love that the Alien had all those blossoms for mouths. I love that it couldn’t get the window open. I just loved your little story!
March 15th, 2013 at 3:53 pm
Thank you so much. I’m kind of fond of it too. 🙂 I kind of like to write about sad, pathetic little creatures. Hopefully, he can find happiness somewhere.
March 15th, 2013 at 3:59 pm
this was brilliant:) unique indeed
March 15th, 2013 at 7:58 pm
Poor lil-lee, I hope s/he makes it home eventually! 🙂
March 17th, 2013 at 12:00 am
Hopefully. With no hands, it can’t even phone home.
March 15th, 2013 at 8:32 pm
Aww! I’m so sad for the little mite. I hope there’s some semblance of happiness in the future… I’m reminded by the bowl of petunias from Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy actually. And that’s a compliment and a half.
Well done 🙂
D x
March 17th, 2013 at 12:01 am
That is quite a compliment, and yes, it is about that. Maybe that’s what the petunias meant by “not again”. It was stuck on earth as a pot of lilies before. 🙂
March 15th, 2013 at 9:16 pm
Alien lilies – whatever next – nutty and hilarious – I love it!
March 15th, 2013 at 9:24 pm
This Lily should get together with mine. There is a movement going on…

March 15th, 2013 at 11:44 pm
I like it when ‘Things’ take on new life. Well done.
Age is relative or is it relatives that make you age?
March 17th, 2013 at 12:03 am
Relatives can make you age, but if you’re lucky, they keep you young . 🙂
March 16th, 2013 at 1:14 am
This made me smile, I hope that was the intention! Great to read an off the wall kind of take on the photoprompt, very original.
March 16th, 2013 at 10:45 am
Yeah, it wasn’t meant as anything serious. Glad you liked it.
March 16th, 2013 at 1:19 am
I just laughed and laughed at this one! Especially, the “I’m just going to throw myself out this window!” Ha ha. Poor little Lily. What a life she leads being placed next to dead people.
March 16th, 2013 at 10:47 am
Yeah, what a pathetic little guy. It reminds me of Marvin the android in Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy.
March 16th, 2013 at 4:28 am
Wow, you made me feel for the flower. I was actually feeling bad about it, especially all the times we cut flowers (i.e. kill them) just for our pleasure. Nice work!
March 17th, 2013 at 12:05 am
Yeah, if we anthropomorphized everything in our lives, we’d never get anything done without feeling horribly guilty about it. Thanks for the comment. 🙂
March 16th, 2013 at 10:08 pm
That made me giggle a little grin.
March 17th, 2013 at 12:06 am
I’m glad 🙂
March 16th, 2013 at 11:44 pm
Poor Lil-lee. Good take on the prompt.
March 18th, 2013 at 10:58 pm
Loved this, and feeling very sorry for your lil-lee.
March 19th, 2013 at 12:51 pm
Dear Dave,
From the title to the last sentence, your lament was great entertainment. The parallel between it and all of the rest of the ‘alien’ species on this planet may not have been intended, but exists nonetheless. Well done.
Aloha,
Doug
