This is probably the latest I’ve ever posted a Friday Fictioneers story, since I usually do it on Wednesday. But we just got back to North America and this whole week has been up in the air (partially literally). I’ve been the first on the list before. Maybe this time I’ll be the last on the list.
He’s a Natural Man…
“It’s for our landlord,” I told Joe, pointing to the festivities. “He’s never bathed, ever. After a few years, lichen started to accumulate. We tried to get rid of him but by then, he had Greenpeace on his side, seeing that he was so much a part of the environment.”
“Sounds disgusting,” Joe said.
“Well, yeah, but he’s kind of a local treasure now. After the town accepted him, they fought hard to get him recognition. Let’s go: the party’s starting.”
We walked over to where a huge banner proudly proclaimed:
CONGRATULATIONS KARL ZIMEKIS ON MAKING THE NEW SPECIES LIST.

That’s crazy! 😀
July 7th, 2014 at 12:43 pm
🙂 Sounds like something you might write, Miles, admit it.
July 7th, 2014 at 1:28 pm
Yes, it would. However, I didn’t think about it. 😦
July 7th, 2014 at 1:48 pm
absolutely crazy and fun 🙂
have been missing you a lot! you have become a part of my daily schedule… hope you will sort things up there real soon and be back with us!
July 7th, 2014 at 11:16 pm
I’m hoping I can fall into a routine as well soon. If not, at least I’m not moving any more and packing, so I can probably find a moment here and there to blog and read stuff. Here’s hoping.
July 9th, 2014 at 6:07 pm
hope you will… 🙂
July 7th, 2014 at 2:48 pm
Sounds really crazy!!
July 7th, 2014 at 11:14 pm
Pretty much. 🙂
July 7th, 2014 at 4:09 pm
A natural man, through and through. Love it! Well, at least you wrote one! yay! More than me. What’s my excuse? Maybe I’ll write one now and I can be last! ha ha. I was wondering what happened to you. I hope you had a nice trip.
July 7th, 2014 at 11:14 pm
Maybe we can all compete to be last on the list. That would change the dynamics a lot. 🙂
I had a good trip, although it was long and tiring. And actually, it’s not over yet, since I don’t have a home of my own or a job. But all in good time. I miss reading your stuff but I will try to when I get time. I see them in my inbox, just tempting me away from job applications. 🙂
July 8th, 2014 at 1:52 am
No kidding. I was shocked when I didn’t see you in my inbox this week for FF. Then, I knew something was up!
That’s right. You moved! I just wasn’t sure where. I take it you’re not in South Korea any more? That is a tremendous move. Best of luck in the job search. I understand you need to focus on applications. No worries! 😉
July 10th, 2014 at 10:55 pm
We’re not sure where we’ll end up permanently, but probably in the US. We’re in Ohio now, just visiting family. It was a big move from Korea, but we’ve done it before, so it could have been worse. 🙂
July 11th, 2014 at 6:00 am
Welcome to the U.S.! You’ll have to let me know where you end up. Best of luck in your transition. I know that can be tough. 🙂
July 7th, 2014 at 5:38 pm
Better late than never. Great to see you here. Although I’m not so sure about Karl. Glad there’s no way to include smell in the story. Ugh. Talk about my wicked sense of humor. 😉
July 7th, 2014 at 11:12 pm
I agree about Karl. This story needed a distant perspective, I think. 🙂
July 7th, 2014 at 11:30 pm
Dear David – well written, but certainly different! You peaked my interest! Odd! Nan 🙂
July 8th, 2014 at 4:53 pm
David, Hilarious. XD Greenpeace stuck up for him as he’d become “part of the environment.” I also loved that he’d “become a new species.” That’s willd. Really well written. I hope you do well after your move. 🙂 —Susan

Thanks, Susan. I appreciate you reading and I hope to be more present in FF whenever I can get settled.
July 8th, 2014 at 11:04 pm
This is kinda’ icky, and very fun. Well done.
July 9th, 2014 at 1:02 am
Who doesn’t like a goofy, good natured humor?
Pacing is consistent, and it boasts of very imaginative premise.
What you’ve done is hardly a new gimmick, but rarely has it been indulged with such fervor.
Recently I’ve written a short story- a surreal dark comedy. Would love some feedback:

You are not the last. I thought I was, but not either. Anyways love this piece – a different way of looking at him. 🙂
July 9th, 2014 at 11:08 pm
A natural man indeed. He’s needs to patent that grizzly bear, or sasquatch in heat, body odor and start a new line of personal care products. I guarantee somebody would buy it.
July 10th, 2014 at 10:44 pm
On the Internet, it could even become a cult sensation. 🙂
July 10th, 2014 at 4:51 am
Hey there! Long time no read! I wish you the best of luck with the job/home search, I know how uncomfortable it can feel. Now that I’m returning to my online spot (and looking for a job, too, haha), I’ll be better at keeping up with your writing. Warmest wishes! 🙂
July 10th, 2014 at 10:43 pm
Thank you and it’s great to hear from you again. Hopefully I can get settled soon and get back into a routine. Good luck with your job search too. 🙂
July 10th, 2014 at 9:53 am
Fun stuff, David.
Welcome back to the States! I hope this means we’ll be seeing/reading more of you.
July 10th, 2014 at 10:41 pm
Yes, I’ll be around more, I hope, although now I’m staying with inlaws with almost no Internet, so I had to sneak away to a coffee shop.
July 11th, 2014 at 12:19 am
“Blessed are those who stay with their inlaws for their coffee cups will always be half full.”
July 16th, 2014 at 10:50 pm
Hi David….i see that you have relocated to the USA…..may the Lord guide and bless you and your wife as you embark on this new leg of your journey…:)
July 17th, 2014 at 5:36 am
Thank you, Kim. We are back, although we’re still not settled since I’m looking for a job. He is blessing us so far.
July 29th, 2014 at 3:15 pm
This is really imaginative. Hope your relocation was smooth. How is your job hunt coming along?
July 29th, 2014 at 10:57 pm
It’s coming, although slow. I do have an interview tomorrow, so we’ll see.
