Well, I’m not dead, in case any of you were wondering. It wouldn’t be totally implausible, since I dropped off the face of the blogging world for about 3.5 months. Partially, I needed a break, and I have been hard at work on a few large writing projects. Also, I felt bad about posting Friday Fictioneers stories when I didn’t have time to read anyone else’s.
I don’t know if I can come back at full strength, but I will try to post more regularly, if anyone is still around to read my stories.

Amateur Night at the Cantina
I shuffled onto the cantina’s stage, clutching my plasma cello with sweaty hands. Hundreds of eyes stared out at me from the gloomy bar, whole constellations of varying colors, shapes and sizes.
I started with some Beethoven, but I quickly felt an undertone of discontent grow in the air. I switched to some Trebellium orchestral music. It was so soaring and grand, it could make your heart weep, but the anger only grew.
“Play the song!” someone finally shouted.
That song. I hated it, but I had no choice if I wanted to escape alive.
Sigh.
I began to play.
(The idea for this story came from a scene from Family Guy’s Blue Harvest, where they joke that in the Mos Eisley cantina, they only play one song.)

I, for one, am happy to hear that you’re not dead. Nice Star Wars reference, I shall accept it as the “been gone too long” fee. 😉 I hope you’re making progress on your larger writing projects. I’ve been doing the opposite — using what little writing time I have to keep up on the flash fiction posts — and your way seems much wiser, come to think of it. Looking forward to updates on those bigger projects!

So good to have you back!

Nice take, I’m sure there are quite a few bands and artists who have a love/hate relationship with their ‘hit’ songs that everyone turns up wanting to hear, rather than anything else they might want to play. Well done.

Your humility is very sweet. How you feel not having time to read others due to a busy life. Can’t imagine another soul saying that, especially on WordPress. I love the orchestra images. Reminded me of the gazebo picture you contributed to FF way back when. Love love love…plasma cello. Only you could have come up with that one. As far as hesitating an essay here and there for lack of reciprocating, just write when you can and don’t worry about us. It’s about the wrtiting. It’s about doing what you love. Everything else to quote The Who is just Teenage Wasteland. ❤️️

Thanks, my friend. I really appreciate this. I’m always writing, but I’ll try to post more of it. If I ever learn how to play the plasma cello I’ll make a video. 😉

I really loved that. Made me smile.

I wonder if there is such a cantina… reminds me both of the Cantina Scene of the original Star Wars with a bit of blues brothers… It had to be Living next Door to Alice he had to play.

Dear David,
I have wondered what happened to you and have missed you terribly. I see you haven’t lost it. I also saw Star Wars. Glad you’re alive and well and writing.
Shalom,
Rochelle

Thank you for your kind words, Rochelle, and I’m sorry to have dropped off without a word. I have missed you as well. I think I just needed a break for a bit. Happy Thanksgiving.

Of course YOU would be inspired by Family Guy.
Good to read you here, David, whenever you can.

Thanks, Dawn. I’m more of a Simpsons fan, but I get my inspiration from all over. 🙂

I wonder how many musicians feel like that about ‘a song’, the one that broke them, made them big – probably paid for a house, put their kids through college – and drives them absolutely nuts. Lots of great takes on the photo prompt this week – glad you had time to join in. A great read

Thanks Lynn. Yes, it would be too bad to come to hate something you made if it was all people wanted to hear about.

I’m sure it happens – a lot. 🙂

Cute story, David. I’m sure we’re happy for your being busy. That’s great for a writer and you needn’t apologize. Good writing. 🙂 — Suzanne
