Even pawns can become queen. Just keep moving forward.
I may only be a lady-in-waiting, but over the years, across the chessboard, the queen has taught me everything until I am sure I know more than that hapless prince.
So one night I take a large pillow and go to the queen’s bed.
Just get to the end.
Regicide? No, promotion.
I put on the crown and march to the hall.
“The queen is dead! Long live your new queen!”
I don’t see Sir Geoffrey until he stabs his sword into my side.
I always forget how the knights move.

That last line…https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CBq_cYsu3AI
Taking a break this week. In the middle of editing.

The consequences of not thinking things all the way through. Nice picture.

I like the photo too. Let’s hear it for Jeff Arnold.

Yeah, you need to think at least a dozen moves ahead with something like that.

Always a consequence – a true morality tale. Tragic story. Lovely writing.

Thanks. Yeah, I was thinking of making it more comedic but went a little darker after all.

I SO LOVE THIS…I see it all. Has an All about Eve flavor, just with castles in the air. Hapless is such a great word, and the first line gave me chills. Even Pawns can become Queens. Fuckin’ A…:)

Thanks, my friend. I appreciate your comments. So glad you liked it. Means a lot.

It comes at your from the side, just like a knight. 🙂

Love the last line. It is a concept that difficult for beginners to remember. Nice write.

I think she may have over-reached herself a tad. Good to see you back on the square, David.

Thanks, Sandra. I tend to be in and out these days, but I’m going to try to be more in.

Nice story with a lot of twists. Most beautiful sentence is “every pawn can be a queen”. So true as much in chess as in real life.

Isn’t it though? Such a lovely way of saying one who’s plain longs to be elegant.

Thank you, Abhijit. I like that line too. Glad you enjoyed it.

Dear David,
Regicide? That’s a new word for me. Alas it didn’t work for her for very long, did it? Well played, sir.

Yeah, I don’t think she planned far ahead on that one, which is common in life and chess. 🙂

LOL…how clever!
