Big things are happening in the land of green walls! For all my Friday Fictioneers friends out there and anyone else who might not know, I have started a website for children’s stories called the Green-Walled Treehouse. As part of it, I have a place for kids 0-18 to submit story ideas and I will write a story for them based on it. If you know anyone interested, have them email me at email@example.com.
I also just published a children’s book about my travels last year in Southeast Asia. It’s called Stanley and Amber in Southeast Asia (it started out as a Flat Stanley project for my niece). You can read more about it here, as well as download a free copy.
I stumble up the stairs, joy and horror warring in my mind. I spot the stroller box, and a burst of manic laughter escapes me. If only we’d known.
One ultrasound would have shown us what was growing inside Danielle, but with losing my insurance and COVID . . . As long as everyone was healthy, we said.
I reach the nursery. My mind flips to calculator, but the numbers aren’t adding up.
I collapse into the rocking chair while the word that now will forever define my life careens around my mind.
We’re going to need a bigger crib.

A bit of a change of life style is ahead…

Yeah, no kidding. I can’t imagine taking a family from 2 to 9 overnight, especially when most of those are utterly helpless.

I see a job change coming
March 3rd, 2021 at 7:25 pm
Yeah, really. Hopefully, at least for him.

I thought we had it bad with twins!

Twins would be bad enough, I think. 🙂

Oy! I was expecting a demon child, so the septuplets were a nice surprise–as long as you have enough cribs, bibs, food, and diapers!
March 21st, 2021 at 7:50 pm
Yes, much nicer this way, although no less of a shock, I’m sure. 🙂
March 4th, 2021 at 11:04 am
Well, that was a surprise! You really kept the mystery going.
March 4th, 2021 at 1:35 pm
My goodness. I like how you played me right to the end.

Well, knowing my love of the weird and macabre, it could have gone anywhere. Thanks for reading and commenting. 🙂

Is it too soon to suggest some money from a reality TV show gig? Fun story that I know isn’t always fun for the parents who still sometimes get surprised by twins. I mean, twins, let alone triplets, let alone…. Made me grin. Thanks for sharing.
March 21st, 2021 at 7:49 pm
Yeah, really. I’m sure there is a spot on some network for them. 🙂 Thanks for reading.
March 4th, 2021 at 7:20 pm
Well, then, go big or go home … 😉 (oh wait … they’ll all BE home soon .. Yep, get a bigger bed …) 😉

They’re going to need help. He should consider the snip…
March 5th, 2021 at 5:44 am
…and they say three’s a crowd! Nice one David.

Now there’s a surprise! Hopefully they can get enough publicity with all those babies that the community will rally round and help them out. 😉 Well done.
PS My 10 year old granddaughter loves to write. I’ll have to send your links to her. (I might be a proud bubbie, but she’s a talented artist and writer.)

That’s great, Rochelle. I’d love to have her contribute. I’m reworking things a bit now and am adding sections to send it original work as well, as well as a weekly prompt on Mondays (different than Friday Fictioneers though. 🙂 ). Have a great week!

Great twist. I love where this went. =)

Wonderful take! I’m not sure that entry way will handle the number of boxes coming very well . 😉
March 5th, 2021 at 5:21 pm
That’s one way to build a family 🙂 You put this together well. Congratulations on the new website and the publishing of your book!
March 21st, 2021 at 7:44 pm
Thanks! It’s going a bit slowly since I’m so busy at work, but I’m optimistic. 🙂
March 7th, 2021 at 7:18 am
You kept the suspense up, until the surprise ending. Nicely done.
March 21st, 2021 at 7:43 pm
Thanks! I’m glad you liked it.
March 8th, 2021 at 12:02 am
Oh they’re in for an adventure to say the least!
March 14th, 2021 at 7:45 am
I’m sorry it took me so long to read this. I still use my former friend’s email for my blog, out of sentiment mostly, so I don’t get the alerts when you post.
I love the brevity in this, how quickly it travels, and the words you used, like careen and the phrase…a burst of manic laughter. That was very jarring for me since, I know what that sounds like….it comes out of nowhere making you jump out of your chair. You’re so good at these David.
Like that you announced your book publication. You worked so hard on it.
Your admiring Friend,

Thank you, my friend. I’m glad you liked it.
