Aftermath Glossary

This is a collection of all the slang and jargon used in the Aftermath series.

Before:  the time before the nuclear war and end of civilization in

2086 AD.

Blacksoul: an evil person

Blitzoid:  totally destroyed

Burn fly:  a mutated housefly with a painful, burning bite

Calico:  excellent, beautiful

Chinch bugs:  radioactive insects, their bite makes bitten appendages swell up and eventually burst.

Chren:  irradiated mold. Very dangerous if inhaled, but prized for experiments in mutagenics

Drob:  robot

Gee-see (GC):  Geiger counter

Hum-tunes:  music made up and passed by word of mouth between people

Instruct:  a computer program for electronic devices

Mudscrape:  a wanderer (derogatory)

Molerat: a person living outside Cambridge (used only in Cambridge)

‘Munculus bot: a type of small, multi-purpose robot first designed in 2077. From the word “homunculus”

Myoolbot: a robot in the form of a hunch-backed human, approximately 6 feet tall. Specialized for lifting and carrying.

Phreg:  a moron, dumb person

Reaper birds:  large, mutated crows. Very aggressive.

Scrygging:  adjective, intensifier, used as a curse

Trill:  A powerful, cheap drug that induces euphoria and uncontrollable laughing

Twisted: crazy or obsessed

Windrin…Iffa please:  ritual greeting exchange of wanderers coming into camp.

The first is said by the residents; the second by the newcomer. Comes from “Are you wandering in (just for the night)?” “Yes, if you please.”

Witcher: a pirate or bandit from Ipswich

Wulp:  wolf
