Sitting in the window of my lush, ivy-covered tower, I looked down and thought, with my heart all aflutter—
Why didn’t I build a railing on this window?
Life doesn’t need a railing! Live life to the fullest, on the edge, in the wild, in the heat and passion and ecstasy of the moment!
You won’t say that if you fall and smash your head.
Sometimes you need to risk all to live happy and free and doing what you believe in. Safety is for the timid! I’d rather die than never truly live.
What about the people that would cry if you got hurt or killed?
Yeah, well, you see . . . Thanks a lot, rational side. I was trying to have a moment there.

As i am scared of heights would need more than a railing to get me sitting at the window lol
October 16th, 2012 at 10:20 pm
Just don’t look down 🙂
October 16th, 2012 at 10:31 pm
I do this every time I go on my balcony. What would it be like to jump down 16 floors even if I know how it will end?

that photograph is amazing!
the story is real- there are people like that!

Sadly, my rational side always prevails as well. Then again, perhaps that’s a good thing considering how klutzy I am.

And to think that only you have a mini-you in a halo and a pair of red horns wiggling fingers and fighting each other in your head over the tiniest of hand grenades of triggers in daily life.
Awesome 🙂

I think there’s room in life for both fantasy, and rationale…
Keeps me ‘on my toes’, and I’m still here…! 🙂
October 17th, 2012 at 1:29 pm
Exactly. We need a happy medium between paralyzing caution and suicidal recklessness, although I like to edge as close to the reckless as I can.
October 17th, 2012 at 8:18 am
That’s a cool photo, David! Do you really sit up there?
October 17th, 2012 at 1:28 pm
No. 🙂 The post is just a metaphor, although I do like high, precarious places that give my wife a heart attack. I try to do crazy things in a safe way. Like I ride a motorcycle in Korea, but I wear a helmet. 😉
October 17th, 2012 at 2:07 pm
Ha ha…I pictured you up in that tower writing…:) Yes, please wear a helmet.
October 17th, 2012 at 7:50 pm
You have an amazing picture here and how appropriately it represents, albeit figuratively, the metaphor of living on the edge. “Just don’t look down and if you do, please wear a helmet”.

Thank you. Those are good words of advice. 🙂
October 18th, 2012 at 3:38 pm

October 18th, 2012 at 3:43 pm
Which one? That was the Wednesday one (a bit early). I’ll be doing the Friday one here in a bit.
October 18th, 2012 at 3:52 pm

i really am addicted to your stories it seems!!!!
October 18th, 2012 at 5:58 pm
You’re awesome~ I usually only do three a week: Monday, Wednesday, Friday. Sometimes I do more, like with Isabelle, since that was a series, but it’s a lot of work to do one every day. Maybe I’ll expand it more, in time. 🙂
October 19th, 2012 at 4:18 pm

October 18th, 2012 at 3:48 pm

Someone (Robert Heinlein, maybe?) said ‘Life is short. Live wide.’
Enjoy the Edge.

Great quote! Thanks~
October 27th, 2012 at 7:15 pm
That’s a great picture! Quite oddly there’s an “ivy-covered tower” where I live that looks exactly like this one!
October 27th, 2012 at 9:26 pm
Hmm, where do you live? It might be the same one. This was taken in western New York State.
October 28th, 2012 at 6:26 am
I’m in the Southern Tier of New York. Close but, not the same one!
