Dear Mr. Jackson
Dear Mr. Jackson,
I am writing to inform you that
Hey Travis,
How are you? Listen, you remember that concert a few months ago when
Travis, you bastard! You ruined my life and now you’re gonna
Travis,
I really need you now. I feel so alone. I can’t tell my parents and
Hey babe!
I got some big news for you!! I’m so excited and
Dear Prick,
I know it’s hard for a colossal douche like you to understand but
Travis,
I’ve got something to say. Please, please don’t be mad but
Travis,
Please call me. We have to talk.
August 13th, 2014 at 11:20 pm
Dear David,
What an emotional journey you took me on. I have a hunch I know what she wants to tell Mr. Jackson, Travis, Prick. 😉 Well done as always.
Shalom,
Rochelle
August 13th, 2014 at 11:35 pm
Thanks. I tried to make it obvious without actually coming out and saying it.
August 13th, 2014 at 11:40 pm
Mission accomplished. ;D
August 13th, 2014 at 11:21 pm
Wow, I loved what you did with this. So much said beneath the lines. Brill 🙂
August 13th, 2014 at 11:36 pm
Thanks, Helen. I’m happy with it too.
August 13th, 2014 at 11:39 pm
What a roller-coaster of emotions you took us through David, A little bit opposite to dear John…
August 13th, 2014 at 11:48 pm
Yes, I wonder how much of that emotion will make it into the talk if they do speak in person. Probably all of it.
August 13th, 2014 at 11:56 pm
I love the different ways you parcel up your stories – terrific!
August 13th, 2014 at 6:00 pm
Such a great approach to this week’s challenge. I like it a lot.
August 13th, 2014 at 6:46 pm
I can see wads and wads of paper on the floor! Well done.
August 13th, 2014 at 7:05 pm
I think she must have some big news that is best revealed face-to-face. Great job with this one! I hope it goes over well.
August 13th, 2014 at 9:20 pm
Bravo. What a great story. What a great way to tell a story.
Nice work. Randy
PS call me sometime….
August 13th, 2014 at 9:33 pm
Wow, what an interesting and different approach! Well done. And you can tell that to Travis too!
August 14th, 2014 at 1:25 am
🙂 my mind does it too frequently!
August 14th, 2014 at 9:23 am
Why do I feel their face to face will not end on a positive note…
I love the way you convey the situation without stating the obvious.
Well done!
August 15th, 2014 at 11:58 am
Thanks, Lynda. With all the conflicting emotions roiling in her brain, who knows which way the actual conversation will go. Maybe all of them in turn.
August 14th, 2014 at 10:10 am
It’s like a look inside my head when I’m trying to get an idea rolling here for FridayFictioneers!
August 15th, 2014 at 11:57 am
There’s an idea for a story too: write all the abortive attempts at a FF story…but all the fragments also tell a larger story. I like that idea. 🙂
August 14th, 2014 at 11:48 am
David,
This is fabulous. You tell a deep story without even finishing a letter. Brilliant!

August 15th, 2014 at 11:56 am
Thank you, MG! Glad you liked it. It’s odd; sometimes I struggle over a story but sometimes they come right away. This one just popped into my head immediately, which made me paranoid everyone else would have thought of the same idea.
August 15th, 2014 at 3:24 pm
Although there have been a lot of letters this week, yours stands as unique as you are among them, David. In the immortal words uttered throughout Scripture, “fear not.”
August 16th, 2014 at 7:11 pm
Okay, I shall not fear. 🙂 I almost didn’t do a letter since I figured there would be a lot, but then this idea popped into my head.
August 14th, 2014 at 2:12 pm
Such an interesting way to tell the story! I really enjoyed this.
August 14th, 2014 at 4:36 pm
Really, very well done. I think, after reading Sandra’s, this might have tipped me over the edge. I’m going to go drink hot chocolate and go to bed because I don’t think I can take any more emotional stories today.
August 15th, 2014 at 11:42 am
Yeah, Sandra’s was pretty awesome. Maybe some week, just to mix things up, Rochelle should assign a genre, like comedy. Of course, if they had to all be horror or emotional, that might be a hard week to read through.
August 15th, 2014 at 6:30 am
In the old paper & ink world, each start to the letter would have been wadded up and chunked in the trash–but I got the visual image and you did a great job (as always) communicating the message.
August 15th, 2014 at 11:36 am
Yes, I envisioned a bunch of bunched up drafts on the floor. With email or texts, they would just be deleted, which is hard to convey.
August 15th, 2014 at 7:09 am
Dear David,
This is inspired writing. Well done.
Aloha,
Doug
August 15th, 2014 at 11:37 am
Thank you, Doug. 🙂
August 15th, 2014 at 9:42 am
I love the way you’ve written and structured this, it’s really effective.
August 15th, 2014 at 11:38 am
Thanks, Carol. I’m glad it came across well.
August 15th, 2014 at 9:48 am
David, I wonder if the face to face meeting will take place, or if Travis will have moved on. It would depend on how old he is. He’ll no doubt still be there is he’s in high school and lives at home. He’ll then have to face the music. Good dark humor, and well written. 🙂 —Susan
August 15th, 2014 at 11:39 am
I wonder. I imagine them as high school or college students. I don’t really know Travis so who knows what he will do.
August 15th, 2014 at 11:56 am
Sometimes it’s good to talk! Hope the girl (it’s a girl) copes. Great stuff.
August 15th, 2014 at 5:05 pm
Such a creative way to tell the story! 🙂
August 16th, 2014 at 7:12 pm
Thanks! 🙂
August 16th, 2014 at 7:45 pm
🙂
August 16th, 2014 at 2:08 am
I know every-week – if I miss your story, the loss will be mine, and I am not wrong! What a brilliant approach ! Totally different and emotional roller-coaster !
August 16th, 2014 at 7:13 pm
Thanks, Horus. I really appreciate you reading my stories. I’m glad you liked it.
August 16th, 2014 at 4:31 am
brilliant. i love that you continue to experiment with new styles. 🙂
August 16th, 2014 at 7:13 pm
Thanks, KZ. It is easier to try things here than with a longer story. I do whatever comes to me.
August 16th, 2014 at 5:39 pm
No wonder you have over 4000 followers 🙂
August 16th, 2014 at 7:15 pm
🙂
August 17th, 2014 at 5:58 am
🙂 🙂 🙂
August 17th, 2014 at 5:59 am
PS If you ever have any doubts about your writing, just think of all those people. It knocks me out…truly.
August 16th, 2014 at 8:33 pm
I loved this. Looked like some of MY own notes to people I really had to confront. You brought reality into the fore AND in 100 words …. MARVELOUS! Good going, Dave!
August 16th, 2014 at 8:54 pm
Funny but I read this as a gay man writing to his former lover.
August 16th, 2014 at 9:30 pm
It could be, I suppose. There’s nothing here that says who is writing the letter (funny; I had to go back and check to make sure. 🙂 )
August 17th, 2014 at 7:40 am
Oh dear! Sounds like Travis is in for a big surprise. Nicely done, makes us think along a one line of thought about the upcoming meeting between the letter writer and Travis.
August 18th, 2014 at 7:53 pm
Yes, hopefully Travis will take the talk okay.
August 17th, 2014 at 6:17 pm
Dear David, Eureka! You have just thought of the most clever way of writing a short story! Brilliant and I absolutely love it – hey, what did Travis do? Nan
August 18th, 2014 at 7:52 pm
Thank you so much, Nan. Hmm, what do you think he did? 😉 I can’t comment, since I don’t know the man, but hopefully it was the right thing.
August 18th, 2014 at 10:03 am
Always nice to see a story being told by someone failing to tell as story 🙂 Nicely handled.
August 18th, 2014 at 1:20 pm
Sometimes simplicity is the best approach. Wonderful the way you told us so much without telling us anything at the same time.
August 18th, 2014 at 7:53 pm
Thanks, Sarah. Simple is always better, when possible.
August 20th, 2014 at 3:44 am
This is f**king brilliant.
Great stuff!
August 20th, 2014 at 10:32 am
Thanks! 🙂 That’s high praise.
August 20th, 2014 at 10:41 am
I really enjoyed it. Was brilliantly written and shows what thinking about your formatting can add to a piece.
August 20th, 2014 at 10:54 am
With short stories like these, there’s a lot, I think, you can convey through the formatting and layout. I’m always trying to experiment and see what works.
