My apologies to everyone who has been wondering where I have disappeared to. I’m around but I have been quite busy and fairly exhausted. You know I’m behind on things when I post a Friday Fictioneers story on Friday. 🙂
Snow Angels in Hawaii
Keck had just found proof of life. I had, really. Soon I would be famous.
I lay in the snow outside, gazing up at the universe.
I don’t have a tie.
I sweat too much.
Talk shows. Ugh.
I looked up into Everything and almost cried. This wasn’t our universe anymore. We were younger brother now to a superior race. The vast parsecs where I had roamed for my career weren’t the frontier; they were someone else’s backyard.
I moved my arms back and forth, melancholy in my triumph, feeling as out of place as a snow angel in Hawaii.
*Keck Observatory is on Mauna Kea in Hawaii.

It would not surprise me if something like this will be discovered. I enjoyed this little story!

Thanks, Francesca. Who knows what the future will bring.

So, more than just ‘the truth’ is out there. Good thinking story. 🙂

Thanks. 🙂

Enjoyed that, and got a perfect picture of the ‘snow angel’. Just don’t be late next week… 😉

I miss being in Korea and posting in the first line. I need to get up early to get a jump on things. This week required a little extra thought for this picture. Thanks for reading, as always.

I enjoyed your story…yes, a snow angel in Hawaii would be awkward. Welcome back.😃

Thanks. I’m in and out and it’s not where I like to be, but that’s life.

I love how you seem to come full circle in 100 words.

Thanks Dawn and thanks for reading. I was quite late this week. 🙂

Dear David,
Your stories are always worth waiting for and this one was no exception.
You know you could just get up at 0200 like I do. 😉 Then you could be first on the hit parade. The downside to that is that you’re not much fun at parties.
Good story…thought provoking and imaginative.
Shalom,
Rochelle

Well, I *could* get up on 2am, in that it’s literally possible, but I find it hard enough to get up at 7:00am these days. Sometimes I see a picture and it just clicks, but like this one, I sometimes just need to let it percolate a while.

Oh this is a perfect story. I can easily imagine the disappointment if you ever came up on anything like that.

Thank you Bjorn. I appreciate your comments. We usually think only of the elation of a find like that, but I wanted to probe into other feelings he might have.

Marvelous, David. Imagine not wanting to admit we weren’t alone because we would be inferior. I’m certain that probably is the case!

Thanks Amy. I wanted to show a muddle of emotions, in the quiet hours before he goes in front of the cameras and pretends it’s all good.

You made a scary premise–new life, a superior race–flight and optimistic. I absolutely love the snow angels. Excellent story. Thanks..

Thanks Margo. I really appreciate your comment. Glad you liked the story. 🙂

Loved this. The character worrying about small details in the face of the greater disturbing discovery was a brilliant touch.

David this is wonderful! The mood, dialogue and wit are brilliantly parceled and I felt pulled right into this story. Excellent!
