A Date with Death
The moon was a milky corpse eye shining over the Lopinot Estate, Trinidad’s most haunted site. Inside, flashlights beams swept back and forth.
One disappeared.
“Honey?” There was no answer. She listened. A scream came from out in the jungle. Just an animal. Probably.
Creak. She hid her light. Come on, she thought.
Nothing.
A light appeared in the next room. “Hey, I found the basement!” he said, poking his head out. “It looks like there’s a grave. Let’s go down and sit in the dark.”
“Awesome!” She kissed him hard. “I love you. This is the best anniversary ever.”
I wrote this story for my wife Leah. As of tomorrow we will have been married for sixteen years, and I’m sure one of our anniversaries in the future will be spent exploring a haunted house in the dead of night looking for ghosts.

Weird…but everyone has their own way of enjoying life. 🙂

Congratulations on your anniversary, David.
Haunted house explorations – what will he think of next 🙂

Aw, that’s sweet, in a spooky way — a couple who plays together stays together! Happy anniversary, David!

We’ve just celebrated our 48th, and we have yet to spend an anniversary exploring a haunted house. Maybe I should suggest that for our 50th 🙂

Great description “The moon was a milky corpse eye”. You lead me word by word until I was sure disaster was going to strike. Nicely done.

Great set up of tension with a happy release. Happy anniversary to you both.

Wow, what an imagination you have. And I just have to add that I’m glad she’s your wife and not me because, in my estimation, the mere suggestion of ‘celebrating’ an anniversary like that would be grounds for divorce. 🙂
Good job, David.

Dear David,
To each their own. Good story in any event. Happy Anniversary to your and your lovely Leah.

I would not do that for an anniversary unless it was the time to put an end to the marriage.

This was a fun read. Happy anniversary!

Happy Anniversary, Dave! I actually liked this story. The descriptors were really nice. You hold on to that girl!

Not my idea of romance, but to each their own. Happy anniversary.

Happy Anniversary to you and Leah. This was fun.. Hey, if both in the couple enjoy this type of thing, then more power to them. But that would not have flown with me! 🙂

Happy Belated Wedding Anniversary, David. Good luck on that future ghost hunt. Good writing. 🙂 — Suzanne

hmmmm… anniversary celebration in a haunted estate is the last thing that comes to my mind. My husband cant even convince me to watch a horror movie with him. 😀
I loved the description. Expected something scary to happen, the thought that they can be at peace in a graveyard itself is scary to me. 😉

Yeah, some people like weird things. 🙂
