I froze when I opened the trash. There was a pickle.
I hate pickles.
And I live alone.
Someone was in my house! Eating pickles.
Then a man walked into the kitchen.
He screamed.
I screamed.
Not for ice cream.
I called 911. He did too.
911 came.
They arrested me! They said I was living in this guy’s attic for months.
That doesn’t seem right, but it’s true I’m not in any of the framed pictures.
Which is strange.
They ordered a psych evaluation.
I just have one question.
Who have I been paying rent to all this time?

Awww… I was a bit disappointed when I followed this tag and only found this one entry… 🙂

I stuck that in to see who would notice it. You’re the first to mention it. Now we’ll see who finds this story by searching for that tag. 🙂

Great story David, would make a great opening scene for a longer novel.
June 7th, 2020 at 6:54 pm
Thanks, Iain. That’s a good thought. I’ll think about it.

Now that is the question of a sane man. He’s just in insane circumstances
June 7th, 2020 at 6:55 pm
Good point. That’s not the first question of an insane person, necessarily.
June 4th, 2020 at 5:25 am
I agree. This could be the start of something big.
June 7th, 2020 at 6:56 pm
I hadn’t considered that but since everyone seems to think so, I’ll have to think of it. If I ever write a novel about it, I’ll give a copy to all the Fictioneers.

I thought exactly the same as the others! A great teaser for an intriguing tale.
Here’s mine!
June 7th, 2020 at 6:58 pm
Thanks, Keith. I’ll keep you updated if I do.
June 4th, 2020 at 5:16 pm
Add my voice in, David! Now we needs must know what else is going on!
June 7th, 2020 at 6:59 pm
I’m getting quite the call for more, Dale. That’s unusual. 🙂 Thank you for your comment. This might percolate for a bit before I can find time to write it, but I’ll let you know.
June 7th, 2020 at 7:01 pm
I am not surprised! You keep percolating 😉

Sneaky Landlord – getting two rents for the same place. I loved this it had that feeling of impossible possibility.
June 7th, 2020 at 6:36 pm
Thanks, James. It’s a weird story, but fun to write.
June 5th, 2020 at 8:39 pm
Dear David,
I agree with some of the others. This is only the beginning. Rev up that bizarre imagination and expand this. This inquiring mind wants to know more. 😉
Shalom,
Rochelle

Thanks, Rochelle. I have had longer pieces come out of Friday Fictioneers stories. I’ll see what develops.
June 5th, 2020 at 10:57 pm
Great story,
June 7th, 2020 at 6:25 pm
Thanks, Michael.

Oh… this is a great mystery. Maybe it’s a case of going into the wrong house.
June 7th, 2020 at 6:24 pm
Maybe, although the narrator might not be all there either. 🙂
June 7th, 2020 at 11:57 pm
Sounds like the landlord is the biggest winner here!
June 8th, 2020 at 10:47 am
But is the landlord real or just another figment?
Hmmmm…quite a pickle.
June 8th, 2020 at 11:28 am
I hear the Twilight Zone music playing 🙂
June 8th, 2020 at 1:24 pm
Wow…fabulous…waiting to read more.
June 9th, 2020 at 11:01 pm
That’s what I call a mind bender. I want to know more!
June 13th, 2020 at 3:44 pm
Must have missed this one. Love the last line. So you. Well, you did write it after all. 🙂
